At the meeting of the descendants of Jewish families from Hohenems in 1998, the idea for this association emerged, a platform fort the numerous descendants living in America and elsewhere to support the Jewish Museum of Hohenems and to communicate with each other and the museum in various ways.
Since 1998, the American Friends have supported many projects of the museum, including this homepage.
A regular newsletter informs about family histories and biographies, and about the activities of the Jewish Museum of Hohenems and the family reunions all over the world. In the summer of 2014, Timothy L. Hanford was elected new president of the American Friends. In 2014, the American Friends for the first time offered an internship program at the Jewish Museum Hohenems.
