Hohenems and its Environs
More on your mind?

There is more to see in Hohenems. A trip to the historical town (16,000 inhabitants) in the Vorarlberg Rhine valley offers something to everybody, single visitors, families and groups alike – in Hohenems and its region.
We would love to help you plan your stay.

From the unique ensemble of the Jewish Quarter to the Renaissance palace, to the Mill’s Museum  and the old ruins on the Schlossberg you will encounter history, from the “Jewish 19th Century” to the feudal grandeur of the counts and back to the old village and the castle of Ems.
The Schubertiade,  founded in Hohenems in 1976, offers first class musical events in Hohenems in the Markus-Sittikus-Auditorium and in summer in the Bregenzer Wald in Schwarzenberg. And from the bathing areas along the old Rhine to the rocks of the mountains, Hohenems offers nature experiences for the young and the old. The region around Hohenems offers cultural highlights, from Bregenz and its Kunsthaus KUB  (art space) and the new reopened vorarlberg museum  to Dornbirn and its innovative Museum of Natural History Inatura  and Hittisau with its Women’s Museum (Frauenmuseum ). All Museums can be found here.

International Festivals turn summer in Vorarlberg into a cultural experience of its own kind. The Bregenz Festival  lures the guests on the lake, and Hohenems features uncommon dramatic genres: Homunculus , the Festival for Puppet play. Young Avantgarde music, repertory cinema, Jazz and more can be found at the Spielboden , the Jazz Club Lustenau or the Poolbar Festival  in Feldkirch. And once a year Hohenems offers a festival of art, music and history, the emsiana .
Just beyond the Rhine, Switzerland and St. Gallen in particular offer  a broad spectrum of museums and other cultural highlights. And the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein  (art museum in Vaduz, Liechtenstein) presents contemporary art at its best. All this is within half an hour by car of the town of Hohenems and the Jewish Museum.
