Sun, 04. Sep 2016, 10:00-11:00 Permanent Exhibition and Jewish Quarter Public guided tour in the Context of the European Day of Jewish Culture (in German)

There was a Jewish community in Hohenems for more than three hundred years. Cultural adaptation and change in language led to the integration of jews into the christian majority at the end of the 18th century. The traditionally spoken West-Jiddish was replaced by the German language and the Hebrew liturgy complemented by German parts. In addition, foreign languages were indispensable because of the wide commercial and family network. Follow us throught the permanent exhibition of the Jewish Museum and learn about the background and significance of different languages in the jewish Hohenems.
