Around 1600 the region around Lake Constance was influenced by the variety of competing authorities and countships, so typical for Swabia and Southern Germany. But also by its denominational diversity. In his presentation Wolfgang Scheffknecht examines, how the Jewish community of Hohenems and other Jewish communities in the region adopted themselves to these conditions – and which challenges and chances resulted from them.
